KE#4: Bringing Data to Earth: Local participation, creative industries, and data civics.

Join us at this one-day event bringing together civic society representatives, and communities of interest to explore and workshop open datasets, data visualisation and data-driven decision making for the public good. This event, facilitated by Life in Data and hosted in partnership with Creative Dundee, focuses on four key themes highly relevant to our civic lives today.

KE#3: Creative Innovation in Scotland: Big Ideas from Small Cities

“Life in Data: literacy, openness, education policy and creative data innovation in Scotland” RSE Research Network.

Event from University of Stirling’sDepartment, Division of Communications, Media and Culture. Event Partners: Urban Big Data Centre, Codebase Stirling and Creative Stirling.

KE#2: Uncovering Data Awareness

This workshop deliberates the state of data literacy in Scotland with key actors in education governance, in the context of education policy, Curriculum for Excellence at school level, and implications for lifelong learning and everyday practice. The aim is to see how practical skills and knowledge bases work on an individual level and develop policy recommendations for embedding data literacy and civic competence in curriculum design.

KE#1.5: Mapping Data Literacy

Following the first Life in Data team meeting in February, we identified a need to address the question “What is Data Literacy?”. We then decided to have a stand-alone workshop that happened in addition to the planned knowledge exchange activities scheduled for the Life in Data Network, hence the “1.5” label.

KE#1: Mapping Data Life

This workshop explored national and international perspectives and practices on open data. It discussed policies implemented by innovative authorities, globally and nationally, to enhance data governance, knowledge-building and education. Keynote speakers Brett Goldstein from Chicago, Tanja Lahti from Helsinki and Steven Revill from the Scottish Cities Alliance presented case studies in data-driven governance and civic initiatives.
